Colorado Amp was formed by Dustin Olde in 2021 because there was a need in the community for music education. Arts programs in schools were consistently at risk for elimination due to budget cuts and dwindling attendance. In order to fill this void, Dustin created programming that allowed kids access to instruments and techniques built around vocals, drums, guitar, bass and piano and to give them exposure to music that was non-traditional in the school setting and in a safe space for music performance and creation.
The goal with Colorado Amp is to move from online education to in-person education so that youth can focus on working together and building relationships. By learning how to function as a group, teens and pre-teens can build on their strengths, gain self-esteem and learn to like styles of music that they haven’t been exposed to prior to entering the program. In reaction to the stresses put on kids when the pandemic occurred and the growing sense of isolation, Colorado Amp created a curriculum that was meant to bring kids together to foster understanding and communication in real time with real people; in person and away from screens.
Dustin is a music-major with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with a focus on guitar performance. He plays the guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and piano and is a vocalist. He performs with a number of bands in the Denver area and teaches all of the instruments. Colorado Amp also employs other teachers who are skilled in percussion, bass, drums, guitar and vocals.
The Colorado Amp space is made up of two full-band rehearsal rooms, six practice rooms, a piano lab, community room, kitchenette and a performance space. We have instruments for rent and use and the space is also available to the community for minimal cost.
